Academic Procedure Questions: Taking a Regularly-Scheduled Course on an Independent Basis

Due to rare scheduling conflicts, it may be necessary to complete a regularly scheduled course on an independent basis. This can only be done with the permission of the professor who is teaching the class and is usually only approved if there are no other viable options for the student. In this case, the class is registered for following the same procedure used for all classes (at the end of the preceding semester) and does not require any separate documentation from the Registrar's office. It is the student's responsibility to maintain communication with the professor throughout the semester (scheduling weekly or biweekly meetings is very helpful) and to keep up with the pace at which the material is being presented in the regular class.
